The topics your team building session covers should reflect what is actually holding your team back. Cookie-cutter programmes that run the same content regardless of context miss the point entirely.
That said, there are core themes that consistently surface in high-performing corporate teams, and every good team building session should address at least some of them:
- Mental toughness and resilience. High-performing teams know how to handle pressure, setbacks, and uncertainty. This is a learnable skill, not a personality trait.
- Communication and psychological safety. Most team dysfunction traces back to communication that is either unclear, avoided, or not trusted. Creating a safe environment for honest conversation is foundational.
- Trust and accountability. Without trust, teams become politically cautious rather than genuinely collaborative. Without accountability, agreements mean nothing.
- Shared goals and alignment. It is remarkable how often team members have a different understanding of what they are collectively working towards. Alignment sessions fix this fast.
- Change readiness. Organisations that cannot adapt quickly lose ground. Teams need to be equipped to handle change without losing momentum or morale.
Steve’s motivational speaker topics cover all of these themes in depth, from A Mind For Change to A Mind For Teamwork, A Mind For Leadership, and more.
