A poem written by one of the delegates in my Surviving to Thriving workshop with Valor Hospitality group. He captured many of the key components in rhyming pattern
Dr Steve walked us with insight from Red to Blue Ocean
And he did it with humour and gentle emotion
Where do we fish? Are there too many hooks
If you don’t read or can’t read, then why bother with books?!
To constantly learn, let’s see life as a school
And when we’re in the race – “let’s empty the pool”
If we just exist, then we’re only surviving
But when we act with the heart then we’re truly all thriving.
Because right here we have all the inches we need
We’ve grown the trees of this business from a very small seed
Small acts of kindness, a warm thought or a letter
The inches add up when we do little things better.
We take the rat poison in the hope the rat dies
And buy into Bullshit, the conspiracies and lies
The smile brings light from the shine on our face
The ‘Why’ changes the tune to an Amazing new Grace!
When we lose our focus, we’re never the same
And when we lose composure, we’re out of the game
We raise the finger when we’re thinking too fast
And if we think too slowly, we end up stone last.
Might we ever get to the end of all knowing?
And shoot not where it is, but to where the asteroids going
Do we stop when we’re tired, or stop when we’re done
To be the BEST champion EVER is to claim our space in the sun.
Do we lead as servants, or are we the hero
Where we win for ourselves, and the rest add to zero?
Do we do things for trophies on the stage and for show
Or is the pot of Gold’s end our Human rainbow?
We know we’ll go further when we don’t go alone
And amazing things happen when we’re in the zone
We can throw our racquets; get Red cards from being furious
Or we can stand up with courage, stay open and curious.
Perhaps we all need to challenge some life-long belief
When we break through the chains we get a sense of relief
Sometimes we see things, yet we still remain blind
And nothing will change if we can’t change our mind.
There are things to eliminate and lots to create
And we act in this lifetime before it’s too late
We could reduce things, raise others, but this much is true
Play a little less RED and a whole lot more BLUE!!
It’s been a rollicking ride with many insights
You’ve stirred up this potjie and turned on the lights
It’s not EITHER/OR – it is Fire AND Ice
It was a brilliant morning – so much better than ‘Nice’!!
